The StoryBank Project
What is the StoryBank Project?
Each of us has a story to tell, and GLSEN Arizona believes that capturing these and other stories about the movement to create safe schools has the power to inspire change. Initiated in August 2020, the GLSEN Arizona StoryBank is a digital repository of recorded and transcribed narratives from individuals connected to the chapter’s work, whether as educators, student organizers, or volunteers. The chapter uses local stories to document our history, inspire potential volunteers and donors, expand our visibility, validate our programs, and celebrate the strength of our community members.
Who are these Storytellers?
Storytellers are connected to all aspects of the chapter’s work. They include GSA members, peers and educators who stand in solidarity with LGBTQ students, district-level equity and diversity coordinators, GLSEN Arizona event volunteers, Sparkle Glitter GLSEN attendees, Pride Parade Captains and marchers, donors for our annual fundraising campaigns, corporate employee resource group partners, parents, school counselors, and supportive community members. Anyone touched by our work can become a Storyteller and tell us about their background, school experiences, GLSEN Arizona experiences, and impressions about the importance of achieving racial justice, gender justice, and disability justice in Arizona K-12 schools.
How can I become a Storyteller?
The process is simple! First, take some time to review the StoryBank Archive and get to know our existing Storytellers. Then, click the “Schedule Now” button to email the GLSEN Arizona StoryBank Coordinator. In your message, briefly explain the nature of your involvement with the chapter and why you are interested in telling your story. Finally, stay tuned for more information about next steps!
