Greetings GLSENeer,
This week in the legislature, Senator Lela Alston honored the life of Nex Benedict on the floor of the Senate with a moment of silence. As a nation, we continue to mourn and are deeply saddened by this tragic death.
We must name the role that individuals and legislation have played in this murder. This is why legislation like SCR 1013 - a dangerous resolution that would establish rules related to pronoun use and prohibit trans Arizonans from using school facilities - must not pass! Act now and contact your senator asking them to vote no on SCR1013.
It’s Crossover Week in the Arizona Legislature and in this week’s Policy Postcard we provide updates on the anti-LGBTQIA2S+ bills and resolutions that currently sit with the COW (Committee of the a Whole), take a closer look at the status of SCR 1013, and share some local news.
LEGISLATIVE SESSION
It’s Crossover Week for this Arizona Legislative Session. During Crossover Week, both branches of the legislature prepare bills and resolutions to be passed out of the chamber in which they were introduced, and move forward for consideration in the opposite chamber.
TAKE ACTION AGAINST SCR 1013
A reminder that SCR 1013 would establish rules related to pronoun use in schools and ban trans Arizonans from using school bathrooms, locker rooms, and shared facilities consistent with their gender identity.
SCR 1013 is now on the Senate COW calendar and will likely be debated and voted on this coming Monday. If the very recent tragedy in Oklahoma has taught us anything, we must persist in our fight against bigotry that seeks to erase our youth.
Reach out to your Senator and ask them to vote NO SCR 1013.
