Your GLSEN Arizona Inclusive Policy Postcard 3.02.2024

Greetings GLSENeer,

Since the beginning of this Legislative session, we have seen many anti-LGBTQIA2S+ bills move through the Arizona legislature, most of which will likely be vetoed by Governor Hobbs. Perhaps the most alarming piece of legislation this session was SCR1013. This dangerous resolution, which attempted to establish rules related to pronoun use and trans Arizonans’ use of school facilities, would have bypassed Governor Hobbs’ desk and moved straight to the ballot for the November election.

We are thrilled to report that our persistent advocacy efforts paid off, and the resolution died in the Senate COW this week!

In this week’s Policy Postcard we take a moment to focus on celebrating this win and update you on local and national news.

LEGISLATIVE SESSION

SENATOR BENNETT VOTED NO ON SCR 1013

A huge thanks to the families, youth, Democratic Senators and Rep. Senator Bennett for their activism. Your vulnerability, bravery and courage have lead to a NO VOTE on SCR 1013. So with the spirit of Queer Joy we celebrate this win.

We know there will be many battles to fight in the very near future. Today we encourage you to embrace this moment and reflect on the beauty of the LGBTQIA2S+ community and know that we are united and we can win.

Take a look at the Bill Tracker for updates on other anti-LGBTQIA2S+ bills that moved through the legislature this week.
