Ways to Get Involved
Join a Committee
GLSEN Arizona has several working committees volunteers can join. These committees work to accomplish the GLSEN Arizona mission and strategic plan in their core area of emphasis. These are our "behind-the-scenes" folks that ensure our entire operation stays up and running. These committees typically meet once a month for an hour to review goals and project tasks.
-
Student Programs: supports Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA) students and teachers by conducting school visits, providing materials to carry out advocacy efforts within their schools, providing leadership development training via the SHINE Team, and providing student-centered events.
-
Education: schedules and leads all professional development trainings.
-
Policy: works with policymakers at all levels to ensure that the best and most inclusive safe schools policies are considered, passed, and implemented.
-
Fundraising: raises funds to sustain programs and operations.
-
Sparkle: plans our largest fundraising event, including logistics, sponsorships, awards, and entertainment.
-
Marketing & Communications: manages all social media content, digital communications, and press releases.
-
Community Outreach: increases our visibility and connects us to our community at events/online to attract passionate volunteers to contribute to our work.
-
Pride: plans GLSEN Phoenix's presence in the Phoenix Pride Parade and Festival and recruits parade marchers.

Work an Event
If you don't have the time for extended participation on one of our standing committees, you can volunteer for a few hours at one of our events. We host several student events, outreach opportunities, and fundraisers throughout the year. Event volunteers can help with things like tabling, check-in, registration, room monitoring, food and drink service, tech support, set-up, and tear-down, just to give you an idea. Some of our events include:
-
Back2School Summit
-
Q-Trivia
-
Breaking the Silence Dance
-
Sparkle Glitter GLSEN
-
Phoenix Pride Parade
-
Fundraising house parties

GLSEN works towards making sure that students in the LGBTQ community have the same access to the same education that their straight and cis peers do.
